Setting realistic health goals in 2025

We blinked and somehow it’s now February, and the dust from those well-intentioned New Year’s resolutions have well and truly settled. If you’re beating yourself up because you’ve let your health and wellness goals fall by the wayside, firstly - stop that negative self-talk! - and secondly, have a read of our chat with Gjenae Rosekelly from local gym Urth Fitness. Gjenae shares her tips for setting and sticking to your health goals, and how we can all be a little bit kinder to ourselves in the process.

Gjenae’s top tips for setting and sticking to your health and wellness goals…

1. Make your goals measurable and start small

If your goal is too large, you might set yourself up for disappointment. No matter what your goal is, these things take time. Also, if this is the first year you’ve decided to spend time in the gym, we always recommend you start small. If you’re focusing on losing kilos, start by aiming for a few kilos. If you’re hoping to improve your overall mindsight, start paying attention to how you feel every week. Are you starting to feel happier than you were the previous week?

2. Join a group fitness class

Despite the fact that I’ve been inside gyms my whole life, I’m definitely the type of person who needs to be a part of a class in order to succeed. Being a part of a group and having an instructor telling me what to do, is much more motivating for me than trying to do it on my own. You can bring a friend and make it a social occasion too.

3. Do what you can when you can

Telling yourself that physical activity can only be effective if you’re doing it for an hour or more every day can lead to feelings of guilt when life gets busy. If you’re having trouble finding the time to go to the gym, remind yourself that something is better than nothing. Even 15 minutes a few days per week can be super beneficial for routine, progress, and motivation.

Urth Fitness offers a safe and welcoming space for Novocastrians looking to achieve their health and wellness goals. With gyms in Lambton, Charlestown and Belmont, they offer affordable memberships and group fitness activities. The recent introduction of reformer pilates has been a super popular addition to each location.

Wouldn’t it be Swell

“Wouldn’t it be cool if we made a magazine…” It was during a coffee break that sisters Kristy Coady and Rebecca Geraghty realised they shared a dream of one day creating a magazine. Even though they had built a successful design agency, Design Bug, the thought of launching a new business was daunting.
