Everything we know about Ted Lasson season 4

Hannah here, your resident Ted Lasso super fan. I was sure season three was the end, but with Jason Sudeikis confirming season four, the obsession lives on. So here’s what we know so far about Ted’s return to Richmond.

Did anyone else cry for two straight days after the end of Ted Lasso season 3 or was that just me? It’s no secret that I became a bit of a Ted Lasso super fan throughout the course of its first three seasons. I dove head first into all the facts, watched all the interviews, bought the merch, made the biscuits, followed the filming schedule very closely and even made some new friends because of it.

So when the series came to its supposed conclusion in 2023, I was a little bit bereft. See, creator and main star Jason Sudeikis had pretty firmly maintained that the story was only meant to have three seasons. From the start, he said it had been written in three parts, with a very distinct start, middle and end. Of course, once the show’s popularity skyrocketed, Jason and his fellow creators were often asked whether there was any chance they’d make a fourth season. In his usual nondescript way, Jason repeated his mantra of ‘we always saw this part of the story as having three parts’. So when the show came to an end I was pretty sure that it would indeed be the end.

It’s no secret that I became a bit of a Ted Lasso super fan throughout the course of its first three seasons. I dove first into all the facts, watched all the interviews, bought the merch, made the biscuits, followed the filming scheduling very closely and even made some new friends because of it.

Now fast forward to earlier this year and the rumours of a fourth season started to circulate. Not wanting to get my hopes up, I decided I would wait until the man himself (Jason Sudeikis) confirmed it. If I had a dollar for every time something important was announced on the Kelce brothers’ podcast, I’d have two dollars (hello Swifties, I see you). You see, it was during an interview on that podcast that Sudeikis decided to drop the bomb that they were indeed working on a fourth season.

So, it would appear that my days of obsessing over this show are in fact, not over. With filming now well and truly underway, cast sightings ramping up and an expected release date of ‘sometime next year’, I thought I’d expose just how invested I am and share everything we know about the elusive season 4 so far.

(Some of) the gang’s back together

Early announcements confirmed that most of the show’s stars will be back for season four, including Jason as Ted, Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard, Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton, Juno Temple as Keeley Jones, Jeremy Swift as Higgins and Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent. We’re still waiting for confirmation as to whether our beloved Phil Dunster as Jamie Tartt will be back (please please please), as well as other favourites like Nick Mohammed as Nate.

We’re going to Kansas, baby

The bittersweet ending of season three showed Ted returning to his hometown, Kansas City to be closer to his son Henry. It’s unclear what Ted’s been up to since he left, but recent sightings confirm that season four will start with Ted in KC. The production crew took over popular spots in downtown Kansas City, with key actors like Hannah, Juno and Jeremy (Rebecca, Keeley and Higgins) spotted too. Is the team there to woo Ted back? Can’t wait to see Rebecca eating Kansas City barbecue!

Richmond calling

Here’s what Apple TV had to say about season four:

“Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”

Having wrapped up their filming in the US, the cast and crew have since been seen filming at popular spots around Richmond. It’s unclear how much time has passed since Ted left, but I think we can all agree that seeing Ted back with the team makes everything feel right in the world. I wonder if he’s going to start baking biscuits again?!

New team, new players

At the end of season three we saw Keeley present a proposal to Rebecca to start an AFC Women’s team. With Apple TV confirming this new team will be the main focus of season four, I can’t wait to see Ted get back into coaching. New cast members have already been confirmed, including Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education), Jude Mack (Prime Target), Faye Marsay (Andor), Rex Hayes (The Pact), Aisling Sharkey (Jurassic World: Dominion), and Abbie Hern (My Lady Jane).

It’s unclear what role the men’s team might have in this new season, but I’m crossing my fingers we will get to see bits and pieces of the fellas too! But yay for women’s sport, am I right?!

While there’s still a lot that we DON’T know about season four (Ted’s love life?? Rebecca’s love life?? Roy and Keeley??), I think we can all agree that more Ted Lasso in our lives is never a bad thing. Hyperfixation mode: reactivating.
